Reflection on the 4 Disciplines on Execution

As you approach the 4 Disciplines of Execution (4DX), we must remember that we have many ideas, but we cannot defeat them all at the same time. When I read this at the beginning of the 4DX book, it reminded me of my own life. The other day I was told by an administrator that I can say no, and I do not always have to say yes. If there was on leadership skill that I could improve on, it would be not to say yes to everything and every idea I come across.

When looking into my plan, my team wig will need to be strategically planned in order for it to be successful. The lead measures will be the ones that make the biggest difference in the plan I am trying to be successful in. Lead measures are the measures that I must look closely and keep a timeline on because they are easier to forget and not take data on. I will have to have a team that is interested in and have a connection with the change I am trying to make, because these are the people and organizations that will be interested in collaborating to pushing the lead measure to success.

There are four disciplines:

  1. Assigning a Goal

  2. Act on a Lead Measures

  3. Keeping a compelling scoreboard

  4. Create a Cadence of Accountability

When I build my team, I will need to set them up for success. This will help my change be more successful. We have to have a scoreboard that everyone understands, so they can understand the winning and losing moments. This will drive my team to being engaged in the change we are collaborating on. I will need to set a short 20- 30 minute to go over weekly results and feed forward for the new week.
